A finished object!
It's day three of the blog (I wonder how long I'm going to keep track?) and I've got a finished object!
[Blogus interruptus - never try to compose and type a blog entry with a four-year-old in your lap and dinner in the oven - it doesn't work.]
I have my first finished object to show since I started the blog. There's a serious motivation to finish projects when you have the added incentive of blogging about it, rather than simply showing the husband, who usually has something mildly positive to say but inevitably follows it up with "so when are you going to finish X?" The last time I finished a project he had the nerve to suggest that I not start another project until I "finished all my projects". I started to explain that I actually only had a couple of knitting projects going right now, unlike in the past when I've had five or six or more going at once, when he interrupted to clarify that he meant ALL of my projects - knitting, sewing, needlepoint, spinning, etc. I just looked at him - I didn't know what to say. (I later told that story to a friend of mine who suggested the perfect comeback - namely that I would finish all of my projects if he would finish all of his - painting the kitchen cabinets, fixing the heater vents, replacing the bathtub diverter, etc. Too bad I didn't think of that).
Anyway, I finished the sweater last night, blocked it this morning, photographed it this morning, put it on the baby this afternoon, and five minutes later he spit up apricots and green beans all over it. The sweater has been baptized - and into the washer it will go!

Specs:
Infant cardigan sweater from Interweave Knits, Winter 2004.
Jaeger Matchmaker 100% merino wool.
Size 3 needles for body, size 2 needles for collar.
I loved making this sweater. I bought the yarn last December, before the baby was born, but didn't start the knitting until the end of September. The yarn was wonderful to work with and I really like the finished project: it's lightweight, soft, and the yarn holds the stitch definition beautifully. I'm interested to see how it holds up to wear and care - it's machine wash, lay flat to dry, and it's going to get a lot of washing! The stitch pattern is a simple knit and purl diamond brocade pattern, easy to remember and didn't require looking at the chart. The one thing that took some getting used to was that the pattern changed on every row; most of the texture patterns I've done like this one only changed pattern on the right side row - the wrong side row was just knit the stitches as they presented. It took some time to get used to tracking the pattern on the wrong side as well as the right side rows.
Now I have to decide what to start next - there are so many options. I've got several different sock yarns that are calling to me, and a couple of projects for my daughter. I'm not really doing any holiday knitting this year; I did a bunch last year but with a new baby this year I decided I didn't need to drive myself any more crazy.
I make no promises to have finished objects all that often, although I do have a bunch of "recently" finished projects...
