A new project
Well, it didn't take me very long to decide what to do next...

This will be for my little girl. It will not be pink. It is from this book:
Adorable Knits for Tots by Zoe Mellor

The yarn is Elsebeth Lavold's Cotton Patine 100% combed cotton, in a beautiful dusty blue:

I knit a swatch and this yarn is really nice to work with. It doesn't split too badly - I was even able to knit in the dark, something I don't try to do very often.
I got this yarn at Webs, a great yarn store in Massachusetts. For the past several years my mother-in-law (a wonderful textile artist and fellow knitter/machine knitter/teacher) and I have made the trek from Boston (where I usually visit for the holidays) out to western Mass. for the big year-end sale at Webs. It's a great chance to visit, talk about stuff, and look at lots of beautiful yarn (and even buy some of it!)
Webs has a really nice, recently expanded store front, but what makes it really amazing is that they have a full warehouse full of yarn, much of it coned yarn, that is open to the public. You take your shopping cart and just wander around, sticking your hand into mystery boxes, going into the chenille room (they have whole room for chenille) and spending too much time and money. The really fun (and dangerous) thing about Webs is their discount plan - save 20% when you spend more than $60, save 25% when you spend more than $120. It's very easy to justify buying a little more yarn when it gets you over the next threshold. (I was pretty proud of myself the time that I bought yarn for three baby blankets all at once, so I could get the 25% discount).
So this yarn was purchased on last year's Webs trip. I won't be making the trip to Webs this year since we are staying home for the holidays, but that's okay, I still have plenty of yarn to last me a while.
I showed this project to my daughter a number of months ago, so she has seen it and liked it. I haven't told her that I've started it and I am going to try to keep it a secret and have it be a present for her this Christmas. It's worked on size six needles and most of it is pretty simple, so I'm optimistic. But I don't want to get her heart set on it - I made that mistake with a dress for her birthday one year, and I was up way too late the last few days before her birthday, finishing that dress. But she sure looked cute.

Super cute sweater! It'll look great in the blue.
WEBS is a great store. I've never been in person, but I bought WAY too much Kureyon at Stitches W last year, and have ordered online from them as well. The discounting is really effective in sucking you in and making you buy more than you usually would!
