4 Rows

That's the extent of my knitting yesterday.

Just moments after I posted on Saturday night we heard the baby cough. And not just any cough, but the distinctive deep, throaty seal-bark cough of croup. For those of you without kids, or those of you with kids lucky enough to not have gone through this, croup is one of the rituals of babyhood. What would be simply laryngitis in an adult is much more complicated in an infant because their throat is much smaller. So instead of simply have a sore throat, they develop this cough that sounds like a seal barking. Really. They cough and cough and then wheeze and gasp for breath. Pause, then repeat. It comes on suddenly and always at night. So we took the baby into the steamy bathroom, ran the humidifier in the bedroom, called the on-call nurse (just to make sure) and tried to make sure the baby could breathe.

Sunday included (in no particular order): vomiting, baby diarrhea (8 dirty diapers), coughing, short naps, laundry, a 4 hour shift at work for me, a bitchy, crabby husband (his words, not mine) and a daughter who was still awake at 10 pm, through no lack of trying on my part to get her to sleep. I decided the only remedy for the day was to go to bed, which is what I did at 10:30.

So I leave you with a photo of my first foray into lace knitting, the Leaf Lace Shawl from Fiber Trends. More details to follow later.

Hopefully I will have a few minutes of sanity in which to knit today.
