Finished Sweater for the New Year!
Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a fun and safe New Year's Eve and best wishes for a great 2006!
First of all, I finished the flower pullover for Punkin! A week later than I wanted to have it done, but given all the extracurricular activities around here lately I feel pretty good about having it done. I still have to wash and block it and I'm sure it will take forever to dry, given the cold and rainy weather lately, but I'm pleased with it overall.
We had a little bit of excitement yesterday. We live a few blocks away from the last "natural" creek in our area. Most creeks around here have been cleared and lined with concrete, which makes them less likely to flood but leaves them looking like culverts. The San Francisquito creek has been left mostly in its natural state, which makes it much more picturesque, but also much more likely to flood. Yesterday morning the water level in the creek, which is usually dry in the summer and a couple of inches in the winter, was up to 20 feet at the bridge that is about six blocks from our house.

Police, fire trucks, and a big crowd of people, including us, turned up to watch for a while. The creek didn't flood, thankfully, but it was as high as the bridge. And we are expecting more rain this week. Stay tuned.
We have been busy with holiday festivities in the past week. We had a nice day at home on the 25th, and good friends over for good food on Boxing Day. I worked all week and the hubby was in charge of child care, which left him feeling more frazzled than usual. We went out to the movies on Friday night (only the second time in nine months!) and had a wonderful evening at friends' house for New Year's Eve. I have to say that although I missed getting to see friends and family on the East Coast I am so happy that we stayed home, and I'm not sure I will want to travel during the holiday season any time in the near future.
A few random photos from the last week or so:
part of the oven before cleaning (notice the cooked-on black plastic ash)
cleaning the oven at midnight on December 22nd (notice the helpful hubby)
the oreo cookie cake I made for dessert on Christmas Eve
the chocolate pasta that the hubby made
the bread dough for the Pennsylvania Dutch cinnamon sugar bread that we have every year for Christmas after the second of three times rising
Yup, I like to bake.
A good laugh: this video of two Chinese boys lip synching to a backstreet boys song just makes me giggle. I think it's the sad puppy look on the boy in front!
Photos of the flower pullover tomorrow!
