Oh my.
I never thought I would say this, but I had a great time with the SuperBowl this year.
The SuperBowl party at my LYS, that is.
One of many LYS in my area, one of the newest and one of the nicest, had a SuperBowl party yesterday. In addition to different events all afternoon they had a Half Off during Halftime sale. On everything in the store.
I was so there. With two small children I couldn't stay all afternoon, but I got the Hubby to come along and we got there just as the halftime sale was starting. For once in my life I was clever; having heard about the sale on Friday evening, I decided to go and scope things out after I got off work on Saturday morning. I'm glad I did. I was alone and I was able to really look around, think about what yarns I might want to get, make note of prices and yardages, etc.
Once the kids were in bed on Saturday night I got out some patterns that I had been thinking about making for a while and figured out what quantities of which yarns I would need. So I went into the sale with a plan, which I think is the way to do it. Otherwise you get caught up in the rush and buy too much, or you buy yarn without a project in mind and never end up having the right quantity, or don't buy anything and think of things you wish you had bought days later.
So I bought a bunch of yarn. I probably won't buy much of anything at Stitches, although I'm still going to go.
This has put me back into the mode of thinking about joining the Knitting Olympics, but I'm really struggling to find the right project: one that will be a challenge without killing myself trying to finish. Especially since I'm never entirely sure if the baby will sleep through the night or not.
Anyway, I am now faced with a glut of possible projects, and I am reveling in the feeling. I will photograph and show the purchases over the next couple of days, although I will have to keep some of the yarn secret, as some is intended for my sockapaloooza pal (I know, I still haven't put the button on the blog.)
Between the yarn sale, some fun family time, and the cocktail party the Hubby and I went to on Saturday night without the children (socializing with other adults with no children around - what a thought! I even put on pantyhose and heels, although my shoes were so old they literally self-destructed by the end of the night) I had a fantastic weekend. It's great to go into the week feeling energized instead of already exhausted, which is sometimes how I feel after a weekend with the kids. Maybe the fact that the Hubby didn't work through the weekend for the first time in a while had something to do with it...
And just in case you missed it, here's the link to the transcript for the segment on The World on NPR about the Knitting Olympics. Wow, I feel so mainstream, not a feeling I ususally associate with knitting.
