Um, excuse me, did someone say fanny?
We've been watching the Olympics. Not very much, but a lot more than in previous years. (I actually had never seen Apollo Ohno skate, hadn't watched the Canadian skaters get robbed of their gold, etc. The only part of the last winter Olympics that I watched was the women's figure skating. And Sarah Hughes was really that good).
Does anyone else think that maybe, perhaps, Dick Button should think about moving on to the next stage of life? His color commentary on the pairs figure skating short program reminded me of my grandmother. He kept harping on the same things, usually with a negative slant. The sit-spin positions weren't good enough, the skating wasn't graceful enough, or the entrance into the Death Spiral wasn't good enough. During one pair's performance he actually commented on how the female skater "stuck her fanny out". And the poor Polish team - his summary of their performance was that it was "comfortable", that they were the kind of people he would want to have as neighbors. I'm sure these Olympic athletes, who've trained together for ten years, feel rewarded and validated knowing that Dick Button thinks they aren't the kind of people to spill wine on the carpet.

I believe the phrase "a bit of a bitchy old queen" was spoken in our house the other day. Couldn't have been me. Oh, no.
