If it's not one thing...

...it's another.

After a long month of various illnesses, multiple trips to the doctors, some missed work days and much stress, everybody in the family is healthy.

So what happens? Yup, you guessed it, one of the cats gets sick.

You may not have realized, since I almost never blog about it, but we do have two cats. Both are ten years old, we've had them since they were kittens, and they are part of the family. They are not litter mates, and frankly don't always get along well. Max is super mellow, part Maine Coon, and a complete love sponge.

Maddy, on the other hand, is a very feisty, part Burmese, black cat. Feisty is a kind word for cranky old girl. In any case, she's always been a bit of a pig - she eats whatever and whenever she can. I realized yesterday morning that she had not finished her food from the previous day, and didn't seem hungry at all. (In hindsight she probably hadn't eaten much for a couple of days, but hindsight is perfect, no?)

So I sat down with her and started doing a once over and found a giant infected, scabbed-over wound on the lower side of her face. Off to the vet we went for emergency surgery to deal with the walnut-sized abscess in her face and the raging fever (105) from her body trying to fight off the infection. Now she's got a drain in her jaw that has to have warm compresses twice a day to keep from scabbing over while the infection continues to seep out, and I've got a $400 charge on my credit card that I hadn't budgeted for. But we still have our two cats, and that's a good thing.

Fortunately, we have an amazing pet sitter who is totally cool with doing all the after care that Maddy needs, so we are still going away for our vacation weekend. If we can ever get packed, which is what I should be doing now. Hey, I know what knitting projects I'm taking, that's an important part of packing, right?

Oh, and I finally got to the border of the Estonian lace wrap, and it's fun to be working a different pattern. It's a lot more fussy than the middle part, though - all those nupps! I like the way they look, though, so I'm slogging through.

I also started my next lace project - a new project for the pink "No No Kitty" yarn that I already had. More details and pictures to come next week.

Have a great weekend everybody!
