apple update

No, not THAT apple, although that one has been in the news with lots of cool updates lately...

Rather, I'm talking about the particular piece of Granny Smith apple that is still firmly lodged in my son's nose.

We went to see the E/N/T doctor again on Wednesday and she was again unable to get the apple out. The good news was that there was no sign of infection, and Buddy didn't seem to be too uncomfortable. At that point she said that we could wait a while longer (as long as two weeks) to see if the apple would soften enough to remove, as long as nothing took a turn for the worse.

Unfortunately, things seem to have taken a turn for the worse. Buddy and I have been awake since 2:45 this morning and we're not having a good time. I've gotten him back to sleep three times, but each time he woke up again after I put him down in the crib (the third time I got him back to sleep by taking him for a ride in the car - a first for him. He finally fell asleep after 45 minutes, and it took me another 15 long minutes to get home. But it was too cold to stay in the car and he woke up when I got him inside.)

Several times during our ordeal this night Buddy has said "ouch" and clawed at his face, which leads me to believe that his nose is bothering him more than it was before. So, it may be time to get the apple out, one way or another. I really don't like the idea of general anaesthesia for a 20 month old, but he's not going to do very well if he's only getting 6 hours of sleep each night (instead of his usual 10+ hours).

So, we're sitting her watching Sesame Street (I know, the idiot box is evil, but I'm cutting myself some slack since I got all of three hours of sleep!). The Hubby and I will talk when he gets up and try to figure out what to do. (and of course, as always, the Hubby has a major work deadline he's working on).

If it seems like I'm complaining a lot, I am. But I'm tired, stressed and worried, so I'm going to give myself a break here.

Wish us luck!

Oh, girl - if I had only a few hours of sleep and a baby boy with orchard fruit up his nose, I think I would be complaining as well.

Thinking of you. Hope all goes well.
